What is a shakeout?

What is a shakeout?

A shakeout run - a run that usually takes place the day before a race. Performed to loosen the body and mind after a taper period.

For us, it’s going to be a get together to calm nerves, see familiar faces and remember why we do all of this.

We understand that a race can be intimidating. It would be foolish to deny that. But this meetup will be all about taking our minds off the race and coming together as we always do. It will remind us all of what this means to us, show us why we do what we do, and demonstrate why this is so much more than just a run club. This perspective will allow us to go out and enjoy the event the next day, seeing it for what it truly is - a celebration.

A celebration of all the hours and miles you have logged. A celebration of those runs you didn't want to do. A celebration of how far you've come. A celebration of getting to the start line and getting across the finish line.

I can personally say that this will be the perfect chance to relax before the race. Of course, before a race, I get nervous and start to overthink what's to come, but every single time, the people around me help to put me at ease. That's the beauty in it all, being around others that give you perspective and remind you what this is all about.

So let's make this special. Let's come together and help each other into the race.

I also hope we can welcome new faces and add some more familiarity to the start line because having someone there with you will give you a certain feeling of settlement that you may not find on your own.

See you on the 27th.
